I was working today in a Year 1/2 composite class.
I realised that all the work that I do with these students, is even more then when I was a child.
I remember half way through Year 2 my mum took me and my brother out of the Catholic school we were attending and took us to the local Steiner School. Which suited me to a tea. But these days students are so busy in class. They have so much work to do that fitting in things like quiet reading time and Art lessons are a real struggle for teachers.
One thing I loved about my childhood was the books. Does anyone remember the Little Golden Books? Every time we did the weekly grocery shop, my mum would purchase one for us to read. So between the books and the massive amounts of colouring pencils my brother and I had loads of things to do and that was after the sun went down and we had to be home.
I turned on the telly today before heading to work and I discovered they were showing repeats of "The Wind and the Willows", the brilliant television adaptation of the books. With voices from the likes of David Jason, Peter Sallis and Sir Michael Hordern.I loved watching it as a child watching the stories I read come to life. I also loved "The Very Hungry Caterpiller" and my ultimate favourite story was "The Rabbit Wedding".
Has anyone read "The Rabbit Wedding"? Isn't it a lovely story with gorgeous illustrations.
