I woke on on the second day of my holiday to a lot of cloud cover. But the weather was warm and so the clouds burnt off by mid morning.
Two of Sydney's most famous landmarks in one photo. Taken from a glorious part of the Botanical Gardens. I love city gardens they are fantastic spaces. Below is the photo of the city from the same spot as the picture above.
Below you will see the Sydney War Memorial, it's amazing, so well built there are statues around the top of men and nurses from World War I and II, the men and women are all from different parts of the armed services showing what kind of uniforms they wore. The other man is very important for Australians, also some American's, namely the Hawaiian's.
This is a statue of Captain James Cook. The man to "discover" Australia, although the Dutch found Western Australia before hand they took one look at the desert and left. Of course the Aboriginals were the first by thousands of years to discover our fair land.
Hyde Park takes it's name from the famous park in London. Sydney has a lot of open green spaces, and everyone uses them. This water fountain has been used in one of my favourite TV shows from my teen years, "Heartbreak High" the main characters would hang out here and debate things.
St Mary's Cathedral, it's amazing, my brother and I would run up and down the stairs when we were younger waiting for our dad to come from work. (He's a truck driver so he'd drive to Sydney for work and we'd meet him there). Hyde park was usually the meeting spot as it was near my Great Grandmothers house. If it was raining we'd meet at the Queen Victoria building.
Great childhood memories.
A London parked out the front of the cathedral and across from Hyde Park, you could be excused for thinking you were in London (Except the weather is usually better).
My Great Grandmother's old street, she bought a little terraced house in Surrey Hills, when it was still a very dodgey place to be, she developed Guerilla gardening is the city scope. Her street is now famous in gardening scenes. For being able to create amazing gardens using recycled pots and small areas of space.
It struck me on this trip why I loved London when I was there. It has so many similarities with Sydney. Melbourne doesn't remind me of London, but Sydney is just like it. So much so, that I have noticed that many of the people I know that don't like Sydney always had negative feelings of London as well.
The view from the hostel roof, was amazing.
Thank you Sydney I had a lovely trip.
