Today I went to see the film "The Iron Lady". I have been hearing reviews from so many directions that I had to see it myself. I can say that I honestly do not know what to say about it. I heard that Meryl Streep did an amazing performance with a lacking script and to some degree that is true, Meryl Streep did a great job, so did Jim Broadbent playing Dennis Thatcher. I am impressed that Lady Thatchers family allowed this view of their relative to be made into a film. The film doesn't really give a good look at historical events or the affects of dementia on a person or their family.
I have always been intrigued with the history that surrounded the Thatcher years in Britain, I know men that fought in the Falklands, I also now a man that got his first job in the Yorkshire mines 2 days before the strikes started (he was not happy). I know people that despite having rubbish jobs were not all that affected by those years. So I've heard differing views on the job that she did in the 11.5 years in power. They showed modified versions of film footage but they also showed some real footage there is one scene in which an IRA bomb had killed members of the military and their horses on a parade march.
So while I found this movie a view point from Lady Thatchers memory, I personally would love to see a proper documentary of her life. However, I did enjoy this film and I recommend that you watch this film.
I would say if you are into politics, you may enjoy parts of this film, but their will be parts you will cringe with the views shown.
I would like to know the opinions of other people that have seen the film. What did you think of the film? Are you from Britain? Young or Older? A politician or a feminist? I believe all of these will taint your view of the film.
